Antarctica Brief (NZFX)
For the Arrival / Departure brief for Union Glacier (SCGC), please see here - https://www.worldflight.center/antarctica-brief-scgc
MSFS Scenery - (Installs both NZFX and SCGC)
You can download the FREE WorldFlight Antarctica scenery here - https://tinyurl.com/2xvzfnma
You will need additional free libraries to make this scenery work. You can download them all here in one zip - https://tinyurl.com/228nwg5y
Alternatively, you can see the list of libraries required here - https://tinyurl.com/2xl5gakf
Massive Thank you to Käpt´n Romeo from the JHL44 team for the NXFX Scenery. SCGC from World Flight planning Team.
X-Plane Scenery - (Installs both NZFX and SCGC)
You can download the either the Payware or Freeware Antartica Scenery here - https://store.x-plane.org/Antarctica-Mega-Scenery-XP12_p_1699.html (Payware)
https://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/files/file/5093-antarctica-xp-part-2/ (Freeware - Works for NZFX only)
Freeware is available, but does not work for SCGC. If you want to fly to SCGC, you will need to have the payware above.
NZFX is not included in the links above, but you can add NZFX by downloading this folder and following the readme - https://tinyurl.com/2atvuuc9
Massive Thank you to Maximillian Heigener for the SCGC Scenery.
Phoenix Field (NZFX) - Arrival
There are two significant issues flying into NZFX:
1. There are no publicly available charts for NZFX.
2. There are misalignments between the available navdata and the scenery for the runway at NZFX.
3. ATIS will be hosted at NZCM. So expect to see NZCM_ATIS (129.900). This is because no METAR is published for NZFX.
We have mitigated these to the best of our ability.
To simplify operations the only active runway will be RWY 33.
Williams Approach (NZWD_APP) will provide a surveillance approach service to Phoenix.
Headings
We will be using True headings for all navigation. If your aircraft does not have a switch for true bearings advise ATC if you are requested to fly one and an alternate instruction will be issued.
The True headings do not align with the grid headings used to define the runway. Additionally the Runway drawn onto your ND may not align with the scenery. The recommended scenery is correct.
Download the scenery for MSFS at the top of this page.
Procedures
The procedures we have designed are defined below in a textual format. You will need to load these manually into your FMC if you wish to fly them.
Arrival
Pilots will not be issued with a STAR prior to Top of Descent. The official route ends with the IAF for NZFX.
To ensure separation on descent, all pilots must plan their descent at M.78/280kts then 250 kts below 10,000. The descent speed can be set in your VNAV Descent/DES page of your FMC.
FMC Coding: HEMVI4 Cross JEHOO at or above FL245. Track 188°T to RAPPY. Track 155°T to HEMVI. Cross HEMVI at or above 4300, MAX 230 KT.
Approach
On first contact with Williams Approach, pilots are asked to provide the following information:
- Callsign
- Current Altitude
- Assigned Altitude
- Any Speed assigned by the preceding controller
- Current Altimeter
e.g. "Williams Approach, ANZ123 FL142 descending 11,000, Speed 230kts, 29.82"
FMC Coding: RNP Rwy 33 TRUE Cross HEMVI at or above 4300, MAX 230 KT. Track 162°T to RW33T VIA JOBGU, HEALD, and ARDLY (FAF). Cross JOBGU at or above 3300. Cross `ARDLY` at or above 1280. Your final approach course is 162°T (303°M)
Remember that if your sim simulates temp error, you need to apply a temp correction to the heights above.
After Landing
After landing, vacate on to the Snow/Ice and park anywhere far enough from the runway not to interfere with further operations. You should see a large collection of aircraft parked up. (Unless you are first!)
Missed Approach
Track 162°T to 2000 turn RIGHT, track to BRACT MANDATORY 5000. Hold at BRACT, inbound 252°T Left Hand Turns 1 Minute Legs MHA 5000.
TACAN/ VOR 33T (XPlane Only)
Using the XPlane scenery at the top of this page the below TACAN / VOR approach is available.
A TACAN / VOR has been installed. (Freq 113.8)
FAVGU IAF 155°T 3200A (15DME)
MOBOE 2400A (7.5DME)
RUPAE 2000A (6.3DME)
MUBCA 1400A (4.5DME)
HENUD MAP 238A (0.7DME)
Missed approach is 600ft, then direct FAVGU
TACAN approaches may be available at Phoenix, and Williams Fields. These approaches are developed and normally certified annually to minimums of 300 feet and 1 mile. Minimums may change due to seasonal proximity of runway(s)/skiways to terrain. TACAN based departure procedures are available at Phoenix and Williams Fields
Approach / Coding
Phoenix Field (NZFX) - Departure
ATC Route
To minimize enroute delays and reroutes, all jet aircraft must plan via the route below:
ZELBA WAIS1 80S80 8128S17000W 8230S16000W 8254S15000W 8310S14000W 8314S13100W 8306S12100W 8245S11100W 8206S10100W 8103S9100W 8000S08500W
Departure Procedures
ATIS will be hosted at NZCM. So expect to see NZCM_ATIS (129.900). This is because no METAR is published for NZFX.
All aircraft can expect the following departure procedure:
RWY 33 - MAINTAIN runway centerline to 2000. Turn LEFT, track to ZELBA. Cross ZELBA at or above 16000.
Pushback
Request start only. Pushback clearance is not required as will not be needed.
Taxi
Report ready to Phoenix Ground when ready to Taxi
Takeoff
Contact the Departure controller once airborne.
